A dip into the postmodern. Why? The narrator sets itself up as a liar, very Nabokov. The big fish appears to be able to hear and see the narration (once its eye looks right up at the words, even though the words suggest it's looking for its hat). The large fish's eyes are great visual signs. The spread with no words gave time to talk about what is going on in there. My daughter was content to just say he got his hat back, but I wondered why the little fish didn't come out.
